12km Run or Walk
Course Description
We are very excited to be introducing a brand-spanking new 12km run and walk event option at the Poronui Passage. For those of you that haven't made it onto the Poronui Station as yet, we can confidently say that it is hands-down one of the most spectacular and stunning places around.
The 12km course starts along the same route as the Half Marathon, from the event base at The Stables and up Fletcher Rd. We veer you off to the right where you'll head up a pretty decent-sized hill, possibly a good time to gear down, have a walk and a chat with your new buddies! It's big country out there, and very hard to avoid some decent climbs. The good news is that (a) what goes up must come down (very fair this trail running/walking thing ๐) and (b) the best views on the station are worth the climb, it's absolutely brilliant up the top!
Once you've passed through the first aid station (there are two on the 12km course) you'll head along the tops for a bit before starting on an awesome, flowing descent through some incredible spaces and places on the station. As you come down we'll merge you back in with the rest of the field, and you'll have a far more gentle (ie. flat!) journey to the finish.
In summary... the first half is tougher than the second half, exactly how we designed it! The hills are worth the climb, the scenery is second-to-none, and the finish line at The Stables is like nothing you've ever seen before. We look forward to welcoming a whole new crowd to this gem of a course at the 2024 edition of the Poronui Passage.
Aid Stations
There are two aid stations on course. You will expect a range of exciting food and drink - water, hydration drink, coffee, lollies, sandwiches, chocolate coated coffee beans, and much more.
There is also the infamous Beer Mile, ride, run, or walk the last 1km with a cold beverage!
